One of my biggest ah-ha moments last year was when my coach said: "Everything we do it's because of the way we believe we'll feel".
This also works for things we don't do or react to.
That fits so well with emotional eating, because the reason we emotional eat is because of the way we'll feel afterwards.
Even if it's just for a moment.
And the reason we are emotional eating is because of the way we're feeling.
It's all about feelings.
Let's understand more about feelings.
- Thoughts create feelings
- Feelings drive actions, inactions, reactions.
- Actions create results.
- Feeling is a vibration in the body.
- Feelings are harmless.
Usually the feeling I'm trying to avoid is a feeling that I'm already feeling.
If I'm procrastinating it's because I'm resisting the feeling of failure. But by not doing what I need to be doing, I'm failing ahead of time.
Then, I feel failure anyway.
So, what if feeling like a failure was part of the process?
Doing it would be better than not doing it. Right?
That's why I'm writing now. Because I can feel failure by not writing my weekly blog post, or I can feel failure by writing and keep moving forward.
If you catch yourself avoiding doing things you want to do, or doing things you don't want to do, ask yourself:
What am I avoiding?
Write them on a piece of paper and let your brain answer.
The answer will probably be feelings you're already feeling now, so why not feel them anyway, but still get what you want!?
I realised that I'm never going to avoid negative feelings, it's impossible.
So, I need to learn to feel all the emotions and do all the things I want to do, no matter how I feel.
How about you? What are you avoiding?
