Do I need a meal plan?

As a nutritional therapist, the first question people ask me is: "Are you going to give me a meal plan, tell me what to eat?"

 

I find this question so fascinating.

I have answered in so many different ways.

 

Before I tell you my thoughts about meal plans (aka diets) I want to ask you a question.

 

The reason people ask me if I give meal plans is because they want one, right?

 

So, before they ask the question they have a thought, and that might be... "I need someone to tell me what to do so I can lose weight."

My question to you is, how do you feel when you think that?

 

Really! Check in with your body.

Name a feeling you have when you think that you need someone to tell you what to do so you are be able to lose weight?

 

My guess.... powerless!

 

Talking from experience, I thought that because I feel out of control, powerless, I needed someone to tell me what to do, so I can do and get what I want - lose weight!

 

I've done that! I had different people (professionals in the field) giving me meal plans. 

I did lose weight, but it was a temporary fix.

 

The reason it's a temporary fix is because we're relying on external sources so we have results.

I lost the amount of times that I had a meal plan (diet), I knew what to do and still didn't have permanent results.

 

But when we look for something outside of us to change, that's when we get into trouble.

 

What really is behind that is... I can't control what I eat, I can't control my body, so I need someone to tell me what I need to do, then I will lose weight.

 

And when you feel out of control, what do you want? 

Feel in control, take control over your own life. Right?

 

So for me, I was giving my power away every time I needed something outside of me to feel better.

 

Don't get me wrong, some people do need a meal plan.

 

But what I'm talking about is those people that actually know what they need to eat and to avoid but they can't control themselves.

 

Yet, what humans want is to have control. Right?

No one likes being told what to do. Yet, we want people to tell us what to eat.

 

So, what if I tell you that you can take control over your eating, get your power back? 

 

What if I tell you that you can lose weight eating exactly the same thing (not the same amount) you're eating now?

 

What if I tell you that you can lose weight without having a meal plan?

 

It is possible to have control, feel empowered, lose weight, and feel better just by changing your mindset.

 

You don't need a meal plan. You don't need someone to tell you what to eat so you can then lose weight.

 

You need someone to teach you how to manage your mind and emotions, so you can control your own life, body and mind.

 

Because if you want permanent change, you need to start from within.
